Hiking Adventures
Hiking Adventures of Anne & Mike Poe
Our hiking adventures have taken us all over the world.
Our hiking careers had quite meager beginnings. We didn’t plan ahead; we didn’t have maps; we did not have hiking guides; we didn’t even have a camera. We certainly did not have a GPS, internet, social sharing and all the other paraphernalia available today.
We grew into hiking technicalities over the years. First, friends told us about trails. Then, magazine articles. At times, we joined local hiking clubs. Our biking adventures on different continents exposed us to more hiking opportunities.
Our first big hiking adventure was in Mexico. It was 1986. On a whim, we decided to hike Copper Canyon. We had never been on such a hiking adventure before. We still had no maps to speak of, no GPS, no guidebook. But, we did have a camera!
From that point onward, we were hooked. We went back to Copper Canyon two more times. As you will see when reading the stories and viewing the photos, hiking Copper Canyon was more of an adventure than a hike.
For every biking adventure we made, we added a few hiking adventures. We hiked in Huascaran, Peru and in Banos, Ecuador while on long bicycle tours of our own making. We did the same while bicycling in Vietnam, Thailand, and Java, and New Zealand and Australia.
It didn’t take long to make hiking a priority.
We have since authored 4 hiking guides that are detailed in these pages.
