Although a short day in miles, the beginning of the route from Decize is along a very old bike path on the canal Lateral a La Loire. The pavement is harsh chip seal that requires work to keep up momentum. It is a rather straight route and has little of interest along the way to see. It is a lonely section without amenities.

Nevers is about 3 kilometers off the bike trail to the north and follows and auxiliary canal. Tree roots have grown up under the paving and made serious bumps. We hit too many of them before we took the hint and slowed down. Remember the route as when you leave Nevers, you come back to the Canal La Loire.

There is a very popular campsite in Nevers that must be completely full during the high season. It is right on the Loire and has a fine view of the old city across the river. The camp has a Wi-Fi room with tables and chairs and Ethernet chord so you really do get Wi-Fi! There is also a bar that sells some snacks and drinks, but no restaurant. Once again, take your own toilet paper!

Cross the Loire on the long Nevers bridge and climb a steep hill if you want to go into the town. There is a big cathedral in the center. We went the next morning to find new maps.

Being Sunday, the markets and restaurants are closed, but this time we were prepared and had brought Deli food with us from Decize.
